I began my life as the daughter of a seamstress, sheltered by wilderness. I grew up surrounded by towering trees instead of buildings; by the call of birds instead of the protest of taxi cabs. In time, I became a weaver of stories and I would inevitably travel to the cities. Yet there was still something defiantly wild within me. Whether through painting landscapes or designing built environments, I focus on harnessing the natural aesthetics of materials and creating an otherworldly spatial object. Buildings themselves become like a fabric— their woven threads carrying us through our lives and immersing us within. Creativity, being a form of expression is also a form of catharsis. In my paintings, I give freedom to the sense of chaos that permeates our day-to-day lives. In architecture, I look more toward the future and what has yet to pass. Much of my life’s creative work is finding this balance between chaos and refinement, the symbiotic relationship of light and dark that seems have some necessary balance in the universe.
